Fulfilling parts guarantee

  • Thank you for explaining the T&Cs so well - much appreciated. I bought the cooker from Apollo Appliances Ltd. It cost £1200 so I wonder if I can argue that at that price it should last longer than 3 years 7 months

I bought a range cooker with a 1 year parts and labour and 4 years parts guarantee. The thermostat has packed up within four years but the company say they no longer have the part and can't help and I'll need to source the part myself. Are they correct - do they not have to fulfil the guarantee?

    Can we just be clear
Have you asked for the Cooker to be fixed by them under warranty with you paying the callout  or have you asked them if a thermostat is available stand alone that you want to fit your self?
(Dell certainly hold stocks of warranty only spare parts that you cannot buy from them via their spares sales)
This type of telling enough of the truth to mislead the unwary from manufacturers is why I buy Miele
(Replacement pressure switch for my 9 year old  dishwasher from their online spares store  no problem to source)
  • Yes, I'd like them to fix the cooker and I've agreed to pay the call-out charge. However I don't expect them to take the call-out payment then tell me they can't fix it and to do it myself which is what they're currently saying will happen as they don't have parts for this model any longer.

A range cooker should easily last ten years.
Go back to Apollo and tell them it is faulty and you want it to be fixed in accordance with your consumer rights.
They might well agree and get it fixed.
If they don't agree you might have to pay for a report about the fault from an independent engineer. This would be to show that the premature failure was probably caused by an inherent fault in some part of the oven and was not the result of damage or improper use by you. If Apollo make you get a report and later you make a successful claim in the small claims court Apollo would have to pay for the report as well as the bill for fixing your oven.
  • Well this is a turn up - CDA have just called to say they can now get the part, have ordered it and will fit it when it arrives! I wonder if they followed this thread!! Thankyou everyone for your advice.
