Messenger issue

hi everyone, my messenger app has stopped working on my phone for some reason been down two days, i have deleted and re installed and cleared any cache so not sure why its stopped,wonder if any wiz persons know any issues that might have caused this.

When you say "stopped working" - what does that mean? Any error message for example? Doesn't open? Does open but doesn't show anything? Doesn't send messages etc?

Crystal ball time without the above info.

Also, what messenger app? There are loads of different ones. And do you have an iphone or an Android phone?

Sorry novice user,it's Facebook messenger,doesn't open just plain white screen on Android phone,you can see why I need help!

Same happened to me and I have no doubt thousands of other users as well.

I believe that the messenger app was updated on Feb 8th which was about when mine stopped working, according to the update info the update should work on phones with Android Version 5 or higher software, my phone has Version 5.1.1 so it looks as that info may be incorrect.

I have no fix for you (or me) at the moment but if all other avenues fail to get it working I am considering installing Messenger Lite, which is an alternate version of the Messenger app by Facebook which 'should' work on phones with Android software V4 or higher.

We also have Facebook Messenger failing to work on an Android phone, running android 9.

Blank screen failing to respond.

FB account works as expected on a laptop.

Installed Messenger Lite which does work on my phone but it does come with slight limitations.

In the last day or two Messenger has been updated yet again so I might install the new update in the hope they have sorted out the bugs.

The new update didn't work so I rolled back to an earlier version and now Messenger is working again.

After another update messenger seems to be back working for me.

That experience has definitely changed the perception of it being a reliable form of communication backed by the tech know how of a big technology player.
