Car seems to slip on corners

My car has just had a major service and passed the MOT with no issues two weeks ago, today it feels like it’s slipping on corners and had a bit of wheel spin on a hill, which hasn’t happened before - any ideas what it could be? Could it be the wheel alignment? Any advice would be great.

Have you checked the tyre pressures?

No but it usually warns me, is it worth a check?

Just to add as well we had the right shock absorbers replaced a few months ago, they only did one side as part of the warranty, there is no noticeable noise this time so wasn’t sure re suspension? Useless with cars!

Occasionally if we go on long journeys. Tbh I thought they would do is as part of the major service, I’ll take it to the petrol station now and give it a check.

It could be wheel alignment, but it would be unusual for this to go off suddenly without the car having hit a kerb. It could be tyre pressures, and finding that a tyre had low pressure when the car would normally warn you would suggest that there is a fault with the tyre pressure monitoring system. It could be that the shock absorbers on the left are also very worn and needed replacing when the right ones were done.

You might check for this last condition by trying to slide the car in a safe area (e.g. an unused car park), and do it both to the right and the left. If it slides when turning in one direction, then the problem is some imbalance in the suspension, probably due to the new vs. worn components.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

    Hi

What car.model is it automatic, ESP, how long you had the car, are they new tyres ie last few weeks replaced etc, have you been to that areas before could it have been a little oil there etc?

When did slip haappen, ie from standing start or travelling and you putting a bit more speed into it?

    Thanks

Hi, thanks all. It’s a manual Peugeot 208. I did ask about the left absorbers but they said they were fine and wouldn’t be replaced unless needed (if not on warranty they said they recommend having both replaced), we’ve had the car a year, only done 10k miles, we haven’t had the tyres replaced but they passed the MOT with no concerns. The slip happened twice just going fairly slow around a corner, it’s hard to explain but the car didn’t feel right at all, same with the hill start when it just spun for a few seconds

I always recheck the tyre pressures of my Fiesta after a service now as the Ford dealer that I took the car to for 6 years nearly always set the pressures of all the tyres to the same level even though there should be a difference of around 5psi between fronts and rears. I'd recommend that you do the same with a manual tyre gauge, and while you're at it check the tread depths - they should be OK if it passed the MOT 2 weeks ago but it can't hurt to double check.

We had a car with a set of Chinese ditch finders on it that never seemed to die.  The second time I did a 360 on a roundabout all four tyres were changed.  I now buy all season tyres as they are just so much better in the winter.  What tyres are on the car?

    I presume it wasn't icy?

I have also noted the older I get the more premium my tyres seem to get.
