I've used valves in Marshall amps for years. Never had a problem with decent valves.
Many years ago I used to have a Marshall Valvestate guitar amplifier. It had one valve in the pre amp stage.

I was never a good enough player to justify anything more expensive.

    Nothing wrong with that!
Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!
  • Are there any HDMI DtoA pass-through converters which allow two HDMI inputs?  I will have one HDMI from the computer and another from the Digital TV box.

So you want to combined a DAC and a HDMI switch?

Any AVR will do this for you but unless you are spending a vast amount then they'll also have amps built in (ironically) but this probably massively overkill if you want to keep to having just a pair of stereo speakers (though they would work with that as well as a 12.2.4 setup)

Does your TV support ARC or eARC? if it does then the TV can act as the switch and you just need a DAC - or if your TV has an optical/digital out then its also built in and your option of DACs is wider.

Yep, sounds like I need an HDMI switch, then a pass-through HDMI DAC, then into the TV.

Not aware of the TV supporting ARC/eARC, it only has HDMI and Scart inputs apart from auxilary sound inputs.  No HDMI or other digital outputs either.
