Lidl car park overstayed by 21 minutes

I did a big shop at LIdl Enfield Wash last week and received a parking charge notice for £90 for staying 1 hour 51 minutes - 21 minutes overstay. I have sent an appeal to Parkineye giving mitigating cicumstances for length of shop - long queues to till, very large shop £134, overcharged for one item meaning I had to rejoin queue to get refund and then saying £90 charge is excessive. I presume my appeal will be rejected. Should I press Lidl to get the charge rejected? Should I pay the discounted £45 within 14 days of issue even though I am appealing - does this admit guilt? I presume I will have to go to next stage and appeal to popla? Any advice would be appreciated

No don't pay. Stick to plan A, getting Lidl to get the charge cancelled.

Also have a read of the NEWBIES thread near the top of this forum.

I don't.  If you attached your receipt I reckon PE will accept it, under their contract with Lidl.

I predict the next post will tell us that @where_are_we no longer has the receipt.  ;)

An extract from a credit card statement will do - you surely didn't pay £134 cash.

Please read, re-read, digest and understand the Newbies thread. All the steps in this process are explained in there.

As @Boat_to_Bolivia has said above and as per the Newbies thread, Plan A is ALWAYS the first step. You have your receipt from Lidl and you have the PCN so you can write to the store manager and include a copy to the Lidl CEO showing that the time recorded of you entering the car park, the time you paid for your shopping and the time showing what time you left the car park was insufficient for the amount of time you needed to spend £XXX.00 in their store. They should immediately instruct ParkingEye to cancel the PCN.

If they have any common sense, they will realise that if they don't cancel, you will be taking all future business to their competitors. You would be clever if you did anyway and after a few months show them copies of receipts for all the spending you made at their competitors so they can see how much revenue they have lost. Of course you could imply that many other customers of theirs probably have done the same if they've been hounded by the parking scammers.

You must be robust with the Lidl management. You must let them know that you will defend this PCN if it is not cancelled and that Lidl are equally liable as their agents are.
  • Thanks to everyone for their help. KeithP - I do have the receipt and I have sent a copy of the last 30cm of it (its about 80 cms long!) which contains the important information at the bottom, along with my appeal letter to PE. I have backed this up by filling in the contact form in the Lidl App requesting wiping the charge clean. Is this the best way of contacting Lidl?

Would be good, if you can, to visit the store in question and ask to speak to the manager about this, taking your receipt with you.

Do they really want to lose yours plus all your friends and families business because their weekly shop will include a £100 charge for just parking?
  • Good news - Parking eye cancelled PCN. This was due to a letter posted to them using Martin`s template stating refusal to pay due to mitigating circumstances ie 90 minutes wasn`t long enough for a very large shop. However speaking to manager of the store got me nowhere. He recommended me to call customer services and they didn`t want to know. So thanks to everyone for their help!

Nice.  They will always cancel Lidl ones if the person has spent a fair amount in the shop but that doesn't make what ParkingEye do, in any way acceptable.

Imagine how many scared old people, families and drivers for whom English isn't their first language just pay up because they don't know what to do.

No-one tells them their receipt is enough.
