Where can I get a decent Registry fixer/cleaner for free?

Iv damaged my registry and my computer is running rather slow although it does still work. Im unsure about which program to use as one i used previously has caused this problem. Any Ideas?

  • How did you 'damage' your registry?

If you give us some idea as to what you did, then it might help with the solution...

What registry cleaner caused the problem? If its a good cleaner it should have made a back up of the registry which you can restore and hopefully resolve the problem.
  • Hi

I damadged it trying to clean it because my internet was running very slow and I read somewhere that it might be that the registry needed cleaning. It turned out that it was my router that had the problem but I had already downloaded and run two programs XPmedic and CCleaner one of which made my computer open up in blue screen the next time i turned it on. I fixed this by pressing F8 and starting from "the last settings that worked" but ever since then my computer has ran really slow and I often get error messages pop up on start up.
  • OK, I might be wrong but as I have used CCleaner safely for some time I am inclined to think that it might have been XPMedic.

Without knowing what you did, it's hard for me to try and workout the best solution but I would like to suggest that you have a look at TuneUp Utilities. It features a registry cleaner and a registry defragger as well as a bunch of other useful functions.

Now I'm going to give you the standard spiel about Registry Cleaners being VERY dangerous and not trying this at home unless supervised by an expert or a small child.

This download will give you 30 days usage and then it is still functional but a bit more of a pain to use...you'll see what happens. In any case, you should have it sorted out by then.

    Good Luck!
  • Thanks for the suggestion. As I was stupid enough to mess around with it in the first place I might as well give this a go.
