I made a claim online and was notified within a week that the claim had been rejected, I then raised a Mandatory Reconsideration Notice soon after and apart from a call saying they received it I haven't heard anything since - that was over two months ago.

If its the initial claim you are making cant you do it online? it was very simple.

    Hi all, MSE Emily here,

We're currently looking to follow up on our initial story by speaking to those who have managed to claim back using the bereavement support/widowed parent's allowance with the guidance we gave in our piece.

We'd be asking for case studies to feature in our follow-on piece, ideally with their name and picture included.

If you'd be happy to chat with us then please drop me a message!

    Thanks in advance!
    Emily

Its backdated to the date of the successful appeal, 30th August 2018...
Yes, you’re right in your case. Apologies for getting that wrong in my earlier post.
It should say, from the date of death or 30th August 2018 whichever is later,
This makes no sense if people have managed to get huge payouts. Surely it's backdated to time of death for WPA?

Sorry that sounds really rude. I just wonder how people have claimed back 22k if its only backdated to Aug 2018?

Hi, applied for Widowed Parent's Allowance but was rejected... Reason -
This is because your Child Benefit entitlement ended before 30th August 2018.

I thought this was for the period from the date of death until end of child benefit, not that child benefit still needed to be being paid in 2018 ???
    Situation...
Partner died in 2002. Was in receipt of child benefit until 2014. Was and still am below state pension age. Seem to fulfil the criteria so don't understand why the claim was rejected with the above reasoning... Any ideas ? Thanks
