The Virtual Tourist site is a good start... http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Spain/Balearic_Islands/Majorca_Island-261896/TravelGuide-Majorca_Island.html

There have been a couple of recent Mallorca/Spain threads in the MSE Travel section - useful stuff about various resorts, car hire, money exchange etc.

Callas de Mallorca is very close to the Caves of Drach. They are fantastic. You go through many rock formations, then it opens out into a sort of underground theatre. The cave has the perfect accoustics, and boats sail across the lake playing classical music. It's a must see!

If you go to Palma, you can catch the little wooden train that takes you right across the island to Soller. It's worth it if you want to get away from the tourism and see real Mallorca. My children liked going through the orange and lemon groves best, as they'd never seen the fruits growing on trees before!

If you like shows, Pirates is brilliant. It's a mixture of music, dance, acrobatics, gymnastics and pantomime! Some of the stunts performed are amazing, and each section of the audience gets there own pirate to cheer for. This sounds really naff, but after a few glasses of "pirates punch" you'll be joining in with the rest of them :D

    1) A hire car is a virtual must at Calas de Mallorca.

    2) There's a (not very spanish!!) italian restaurant/bar directly opposite the tourist information centre which was the best place to eat in the town a couple of years ago when we were there. Very busy, but very good.

    3) Visit https://www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk for holidaymakers' review of the hotels.

    4) Clifftop walks are quite good. Beaches are quites small.
