Universal Credit

Hi  I am paid under £25,000 a year before tax, I have a mortgage, no children and I am single (sounds like a add for a dating app lol) however am I entitled to universal credit.  Every time I use the calculator on gov.co.uk it tells me I am not entitled to it.  I am doing something wrong or am I not entitled to any? Any advise would be great please.

  • As you are single and without housing costs your maximum monthly entitlement to Universal Credit would be £334.91, which means you could have a take-home pay of up to ~£608.91 before nil entitlement.  That equates to £7306.92 annually.  That is take-home pay, after tax, NI and pension contributions.

If you were to contribute enough into a pension pot to qualify for UC you'd be having to survive on just over £608.92 per month (your take-home pay, plus 1p UC).

[The above calculations assume you are 25 or over, by the way.]

That's because you're very likely not entitled to anything.
