Hire car admin fee.

Hi All,

I recently had to leave my car with the main dealer for a recall and a hire car was arranged for me by them.

The hire company did not follow the instruction for the delivery and left the car in the wrong place on the Army camp were I work, I did not sign any paper work or have any communication with the delivery driver

I did ask for my wife to be put on the agreement and was told they will have to send that via email. I found the car on camp and drove home. When I got home I had a phone call for the main dealer to say my car was ready for collection and I informed them I would collect it on Monday as I was not going to drive all the way back to were I work as the main dealer was just down the road form my work. Because we only needed the car over the weekend we decided not to put my wife on the hire car policy and did not open the email.

I used the car over the weekend and left it at the main dealer as agreed when I collected my own car.

A couple of week later I receive a letter a letter form the police to say that I had be caught speeding by one of there mobile enforcement cameras (Money Making) while overtaking another vehicle. I am not disputing this letter even though I don't agree with it but that is another issue.

I was then told by the hire company that I was being charged £35 plus VAT saying these are in there terms and conditions of hire.

I did not sign anything, there was nothing about this on the paper work left with the car. I was then told the terms and conditions were with the email they sent me to do with my wife being added, but as we decided not to add my wife we did not open it and just deleted it.

Are they allowed to do this if they had followed the correct delivery instruction and I had signed for the hire car there were still no terms and Conditions supplied with the vehicle, and I stated above I did not sign anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You kind of agreed to whatever terms you didn't read when you drove off in the car. Admin fees for passing on penalties are pretty standard, so you'd be hard pushed to claim it was unfair. Would you have refused to sign over it?

You drove the car and by doing so accepted the Terms and Conditions - Just be glad they did not charge you a lot more.
