Sky

Tried to cancel my sky account but was told my contract ends 7 August. So I can't cancel. As I have already signed up with Virgin for start on 7 March it is very annoying. Sky doesn't have early exit at all.So left with no option but to have sky hike up my package and can't do nothing.

  • Is all of your Sky TV package in contract? Some of it e.g. Kids, HD you may be able to give 31 days notice.

If you’ve signed up with Virgin there should be a 14 days cooling off cancellation period?

If you are in contract until August why do you think Sky are going to "hike up my package" ?

Check if Virgin have a cooling off period and if you are within that cancel and then reorder in August.

Cancel the non essentials (the ones that require 31 days notice) and put up until August.  Tells you in the T&Cs your minimum period/cancellation notice cannot be before your contract end date.

Cancel your Virgin order under cooling off period, assuming you did it in the last 14 days or so.  Then sign up again in August.

Virgin is 14 days cancellation from connection.
If as with most folks installation gets delayed, just pile up the £5.25 per day in the meantime. Then cancel within 14 days once connected.

You can cancel.  Just have to pay all your obligations.

    Incorrect.

    https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-tv

"If you stop receiving or cancel a Sky service before your contract ends (minimum term), you might have to pay an early termination charge. But we'll let you know if you do and how much they’ll be."

It usually costs you 100% of what you would pay anyways to cancel it, so there's zero point.

Full list of early termination charges are listed here (Click on the early termination charges table link):-

Key phrase from the URL you posted:  "To cancel Sky TV, you need to give us 31 days’ notice, which can’t end before your minimum term finishes" (my emphasis)

So the OP's minimum term will be August 7, so 31 days notice will be July 7.
