UC and working confusion

Hoping someone can help me. I'm really confused unless I'm over thinking it

I work full time but currently on maternity leave due back to full time roll aug. Iv applied for UC as I only get SMP. My partner works full time and I was looking at doing maybe some self employed work like cleaning to try and pay off some debt only a few hrs a week when my husband is at home.

So my question is how do I do this I don't want to be done so to speak by UC etc can I pick up the work? Would it be worth it (work is £10ph) do I declare it now if so how or when I'm due to do tax return form. It's not guaranteed work every week it's when it comes if that makes sense.

This is all new to me iv never applied before.

If you do self employment you have to inform UC. At the end of each assessment period you have to report your business income and expenditure on a cash basis. The difference is treated as your earnings and a deduction of 55% of the earnings will be made from the UC payable.

Say you charge £10/hour but are spending £4/hour. The earnings are £6/hour and your UC is reduced by £3.30/hour.

You should report self employment as soon as you start.
You will need to report income and expenditure on 11th of every month (even if it's nil). If you don't the UC will not be paid.
