Can a company legally deny refunds for an event which they cancel

  • Yes - do WANT to see the film but, like I said, this particular cinema is nearly an hour's drive away so not exactly local
The chain in Cineworld by the way and we're talking about almost £60 worth of tickets in total
  • These are the relevant t&c's for Cineworld.

    4. Terms of Entry: Our obligations

4.1 Although Cineworld seeks to follow its advertised programme, it reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a performance or to substitute an alternative film or presentation, if forced to do so by circumstances beyond its control.

4.2 If a film showing or other presentation is cancelled, rescheduled or substituted, the Cinema Duty Manager will have the sole discretion to decide whether to refund customers the cost of their tickets or to issue replacement tickets for the same film or presentation at an alternative time.

  • It may well be that having seen PART of the film that different rules apply - I know for example that if a football match gets abandoned part way through then you wont be refunded

I don't see that Cineworld's general terms can possibly be legal though - if they cancel a showing a week in advance surely they'd have to refund you? And I don't believe that if they instead rescheduled it to 3.12am December 25th 2175 that would be legal either. So there must be some limits.
