Gas Price conversion error in all calculations used by gas companies to over charge ?

Converting Imperial Gas units ( feet cubed ) to Metric ( meters cubed ).
I think there is a massive error gas companies have when calculating imperial usage which is costing people many times more than it should.

A cubed foot holds 28 liters and a cubed meter holds 100 liters.
If converting imperial to metric, it should be reversed from the price of a cubic meter.
There are just over 35 cubic feet in a cubic meter so using basic Maths, One unit on a cubic meter reading would be equal to 35 units on an imperial meter.
Imperial gas prices should be divided into a cubic meter, not multiplied so that they pay over 3 times more for 35 times less.

A cubic foot should use 35 times less per unit than a cubic meter.
There is no way imperial should work out MORE when getting much less.

This seems to have been over looked by everyone.
We can NOT rely on online calculator convertors if they are all FLAWED in how they convert and charge.

I remember living in a flat over 10 years ago , where this was mentioned and a large rebate was given, along with much reduced bills from there onwards.

People do not seem to understand Imperial units are MUCH smaller than metric units and should never be quoted as using 3 times more due to the FLAWED conversion  being used to make money from the poor and vulnerable.

This means BILLIONS are being charged for what is no where near that COST of what is ACCTUALLY being used.

This should be in every tabloid and ALL gas suppliers will have to rebate billions in fraudulent charges across the UK.
There should never have been a flaw in how the conversion was made.

Either all of the above is true or I am very wrong thinking 28 liters ( cubic foot ) is much less than 1,000 liters ( cubic meter ).... ?

Someone please explain as I feel I the only one who can grasp this basic concept.

If the companies were getting the conversion wrong the regulator would be all over it.

The only time when there is an issue is when the incorrect meter type has been allocated to a customer's account and they are being charged for 100s of cubic feet rather than cubic metres or vice versa.

There's a reason any online calculator will work in kWh, or convert to that for comparison.

Have you actually looked at your bill? Of course everyone is being billed correctly.

There are a very small number of folks who end up in mistakenly billed as m3 rather than cu. ft; but this is a supplier error, and is easily fixed with a call. It's why folks here will always double check when people report high gas usage, but that number is absolutely tiny.

Are you taking into account that imperial meters measure in hundreds of cubic feet not in singles?

  • You have the basic concept except for a small flaw. Imperial meters are read in hundreds of cubic feet, so one unit on the meter is actually 100 cubic feet.

    100 cubic feet = 2.8 cubic meters.

Go to an online conversion here:

    https://www.energybrokers.co.uk/gas/gas-calculator

If you scroll down to the calculator and put 1 in the gas units used of the imperial meters section (which is actually 100 cubic feet) and 2.8 in the gas units used of the metric meters section, then calculate both, each one shows as using 31.51 kw
