Parental contribution to Student living costs

Options
Is the calculator thing accurate and do the student grants actually pay enough for rent and food?
Seems to me that despite us saving for the last 2 years we wont be able to do much but pay half the student rent !
Do we try and recommend our Son lives at home so we can pay for everything together ?

So many variables. Rents in some cities can be a lot more than others, leaving far more/ less for other living costs. Same with transport costs.
