Ebay - one company but multiple Ebay IDs

Does anyone know what this is about, companies trading on Ebay using multiple Ebay usernames but all linking back to the same company?  I wondered if it might be something to do with volume, they benefit from spreading their sales across multiple IDs.  An example "wecsltd" "tawltd" and "weldingsuppliessheffield" are the same company "Welding Equipment & Cutting Services ltd" reg no. 3008799.  They have (at least) three clones of their Ebay shop as well.

Another example there were at least three Ebay users with the same Ltd company name and address, but different registration and VAT numbers as well as contact names.

If they have different VAT numbers, the main company could be a holding company and the three identities be separately registered within it.  It would make sense to keep them separate.

Alternatively they could be dodgy people adding VAT to invoices and not paying HMRC.

I think it is something to do with getting more listings to the top of the searches. Maybe they have more chance of doing so if they have multiple IDs.
