Standard life shares

Hi,

I’m hoping you can help. At Christmas my husband found out he had shares he didn’t even realise he had. He has reading and writing difficulties and when any letter come he just thought they were about his pension and he never opened them just put them in the drawer. 

At Christmas he got a man to come out to discuss his pension as he never heard anything and thought that when he set it up he wanted to retire at 55 and they would contact him but nobody did. The advisor mentioned he had shares and asked how he got them and he said he could remember someone coming out to their company years ago but didn’t fully understand. 

We have since learned that he had until 2016 to claim. He also never received any dividends either but I think was entitled to these. Is there anything at all we can do to get these shares back please? As you can imagine he’s a little deflated with the whole situation.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated - even if it’s a solid no,

If the shares came from being a member of The Standard Life Assurance Company

then unfortunately I think it's too late now to make any claim for the shares and dividends (which in 2016 would have been worth a total of about £1,000). I've had a google around and can't find anything that would give any hope that the 2016 deadline was extended and I presume that the money that did not get claimed was added back into the assets of the company to increase the policy benefits of its customers.

You could try the contact number on https://www.abrdn.com/en-gb/corporate/investors/shareholder-information/shareholder-contacts but I wouldn't have much hope - note that Standard Life was merged with Aberdeen Asset Management and that then became the Abrdn that you will see on that page.
