Need a vacuum cleaner. Is Vax good? Is cordless better/cheaper to run?

We have a corded Vax , works great and is about 7 years old ,i would say it is about on par with a Dyson but a lot cheaper ,looked at cordless machines but a lot of negatives with battery life plus they are not cheap.0

I used to have a Vax and it was brilliant except insanely loud; I had to wear noise cancelling headphones to use it. Now have a Shark and it's great; if anything it's too powerful. Also have a Vax carpet washer which always makes me ashamed when I use it as the water comes out black.

Vax are poor quality these days. I would recommend a bagged cleaner over bagless - cleaner and less loss of suction from dirty filters. Check out Sebo - not cheap but great German quality and worth the premium over the likes of Vax.0

I have just bought a Shark Stratos (corded) and it's made my carpets like new again! We were going to replace them as even using my faithful Bissell cleaner wasn't getting them up nice. We have two dogs who love the garden so our carpets take a real battering and our old faithful Shark wasn't performing like it was (it had taken a real battering with DIY jobs over the past 5 years) so it was time for an upgrade. I couldn't be more pleased with it. I have had Dysons, and a Vax in the past and wouldn't go back. Shark all the way here.0

We have a flat, so no stairs, but I'm not sure I'd want to lug it up and down stairs tbh (I'd probably get a second "upstairs" vacuum in this situation)0
