We are like most people and can't afford to use our central heating all over our bungalow but I am so sick of huddling inside a throw wearing 2 pairs of socks, slipper boots with ear muffs and a scarf to keep warm ! 😁

In my case I asked my sister and although she does not have much to do with paying the bills, said her price must be the price after allowing the government subsidy of £67 per month and I had looked at the price before the subsidy had come off but I do agree with you that there is a lot of profiteering going on and let's face it, he owns the wind farms? Yes, the politicians and their families !! It all needs sorting out. The people are being rinsed of their money and much more of poor people's money is being moved to rich people's bank accounts !diystarter7 said:
Hi OPLeodogger said:I was discussing our energy bill with my sister and she happened to mention that her electricity per kWh was just 34p per kWh. I checked my bill and ours is 63.96p per kWh
We live in Walsall in the West Midlands and she lives in Trentham in Staffordshire. Why such a huge discrepancy? I thought all energy suppliers were charging around the same so everyone was advised not to bother trying to switch?
It's called on the whole, making bigger profits
However, that is a vast difference and I'm surprised no one else has picked it up
Could you have confused the standing charges ? Apols if I have got it wrong.
I am just as confused as you are and a caller to a phone in radio show asked 'why are those areas that get most of their power from wind turbine/solar panels etc still charging as much as the rest - no one had a valid answer
You may recall diesel prices have been called ito question for a long time and referred to as 'profiteering.'
IMO, it is profiteering if that is the price difference..
Walsall is west midland by Brum right or part of Brum? Trentham, is that were those fancy gardens etc used to be and is it all covered under West Midlands regions?
Thanks0 -
On domestic energy supply there isn't profiteering, the suppliers are limited to ~2% profit margin & most of them would kill to make even that - that is why Shell Energy is considering getting out of retail entirely.Leodogger said:

The generators are currently paid based on a system where basically everybody (unless they have some form of pre-existing fixed contract price) gets paid per kWh at the cost of the highest generator. So as additional capacity is required to supply the grid & back up is brought online the price paid actually goes up. This has meant that some low cost generators have been having a bit of a windfall but afaik this system is about to be reviewed.2 -
OP - please see the bits in bold added in the quote below as addressed to the poster of that quote.diystarter7 said:

It's called on the whole, making bigger profits This is untrue - energy suppliers are currently limited to 2% profit, no more.
However, that is a vast difference and I'm surprised no one else has picked it up They have - it has already been established that one price here is before the EPG was taken off, the other was after - that would, I am sure you will agree - explain the “vast difference”
Could you have confused the standing charges ? Apols if I have got it wrong. You have indeed got it wrong - you would have known this if you had read the thread before commenting.
I am just as confused as you are and a caller to a phone in radio show asked 'why are those areas that get most of their power from wind turbine/solar panels etc still charging as much as the rest - no one had a valid answer this has been covered repeatedly in here including in threads you have participated in - there is no confusion needed, it simply isn’t the way the energy markets work - unless of course you would be happy if on a still, cloudy day, your “cheaper” electricity supply simply shut down?
You may recall diesel prices have been called ito question for a long time and referred to as 'profiteering.'
IMO, it is profiteering if that is the price difference.. It’s not profiteering - that is not a price difference
Walsall is west midland by Brum right or part of Brum? Trentham, is that were those fancy gardens etc used to be and is it all covered under West Midlands regions? Again- this has already been covered in the thread. Same region, same prices charged for those on single rate SVR tariffs.
Thanks
Diystarter - please stop posting misinformation on threads here. In this case simply reading the thread would have prevented you from posting quite so much false information in a single post. The problem with what you are doing is that each time you tell people things that simply aren’t true, you create further confusion, at a time when many vulnerable people are already very worried about their energy bills. Most of us post here to try to help and support those vulnerable people - so when someone comes along and seemingly deliberately posts misinformation - in some cases in spite of having been previously told that it is misinformation, that then means that those other forum members have to take time to correct the “fake news” and reassure the people it has confused, plus reporting the offending posts. It also creates extra work for the forum team who then have to spend their time reacting to the reported posts. Please, time to stop now. You’re risking severely harming people.
