Here's a good one...this Sept on the first day of term we rang a parent to ask where their 4 year old was and they went ballistic and said he was there, so we apologised and rang accross to the reception class to ask the teacher to confirm...but she said he wasn't there!

Cue huge panic about where he was, dad was adamant he dropped him at the classroom in person, we went round in circles then asked him to come over to the school, so we could all search and phone the police if need be, he said he'd be there in 5.....but did he turn up? Nope.

He had enrolled and taken his child to a different school:eek: We even asked him on numerous occassions if he was sure it was St xxx! He never even rang us to apologise either, he must have been mortified.

I got a rather snotty letter from my dd's school a couple of weeks ago asking me to explain an afternoon absence from school the Friday beforhand........... I wrote on it 'because you sent her home for vomiting earlier that day, also she was signed out by office staff' She was actually signed out by the lady that wrote the letter!

  • Yup we just shrug these off now- the real icing on the cake was the "justify this unauthorised abscence" letter- we checked the dates and she was representing the school, with a few others, at a "geohraphy e-mission" a supposed presigious event!! (actually it was rubbish she said:rotfl: ).

Interestingly DD has a few authorised absences for singing events and these have always been documented correctly- it is the internal things that don't work:rotfl:

Everyone makes mistakes, and no system is perfect.

I'd rather be rang in error then find out my child was at school, than having no telephone call and finding out late afternoon that they have been missing all day.
Here I go again on my own....

We live about 2 mins from the school where my son went from 11 to 18, in the 6th form he had permission to not attend on Thursday afternoon as he had frees all afternoon. I got a letter every week from the admin system asking me to explain his absence.

my eldest daughter is in 2nd year of sixth form..... apart from the first 6 weeks of each school year they are then given a free reign...... yes it gets picked up eventually if they are missing lessons, but the idea is that they should be mature enough to inform people and not abuse the system.....

it seems to work out fine

When she was in year 9, DD had to have an afternoon off school. I gave the school written notification.

A WHOLE month later, I got a phone call from the office asking why she wasn't at school on that particular afternoon!

Better late than never I suppose!

Yes, that's the way I look at it too.

That said though, it is not pleasant to be told your child is not where you think they are. It has worried me silly on the few occassions I've had it happen.
