How much for gas/elec - 3 bed house?
Options
Hi all
I'm new on here so apologies if this question (or similar) has been asked 100 times before!
We have a 3 bed semi-detached house. There are 2 of us (adults) and we are at working Mon-Fri during the day and at home at the weekends.
We have gas central heating and an electric oven and during the winter I use the tumble drier (energy efficient!) a few times a week.
How much should we be paying roughly per month for gas and electricity? Obv I understand it will fluctuate between summer/winter but a rough idea would be helpful. Currently our direct debits are set at £45 (gas) and £40 (Elec) - this seems a lot considering we're not really there.
On a seperate note - we're on a water meter now and our month payment has gone down to £20 - great news!
Any help would be appreciate - thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm in a 3 bed quasi semi (were on the end) there are 3 of us. Me and my daughter are in the majority of the time so my telly, and computer and lights are on through out the day. We also have an electric oven but gas hob.
I have my central heating set twice a day for approx 8 hours per day ( more if its cold) my avarage monthly costs are:-
Elec £37.00
Gas £33.00
This is the average of what we have paid all year as they have changed due to usage.
I am currently with British Gas so I don't know what tarrif is like compared to yours.
Hope this is of some help

We're not quite in the same position, but there are two of us living in a 3 bed house, though there is usually someone in 24/7. We have no gas, just oil central heating but everything else is electric. I make minimal use of tumble drier.
I pay £60 a month for electric and with oil prices ever increasing it works out about the same per month for oil over the year, maybe more. HTH:wave:0 -
I'm in a flat rather than house, but otherwise circumstances same as the OP and paying £75 per month for both gas and electricity.0

Were in a 3 bed end of terrace house, with 3 of us living there we pay £25 gas and £30 electric. We are in credit for the gas most of the time.
We have gas central heating and a gas hob, everything else is electric.0 -

£80-£100 dual fuel for a 3 bed property with 2 occupants. I find it unusal people often talk about the fact they are out at work all day! Thats the same for most people. Bare in mind most people will use 2/3 of their overall gas usage in the 6 months Oct-March.0 -
miketrim, how do you get your gas so cheap?
careful usage
a few tips
- when using pans on a gas hob always use the lids where possible, this will allow you to turn down the gas becuase the heat is contained.
- work out when you use hot water and set your hot water timer around that. Also dont leave the hot water for longer than absolutely neccessary. For example we only have our hot water on for 20 mins each evening. This is enough for the little one to have a bath and for any other hand washing/washing up that needs doing. Most decent hot water tanks will keep the water warm overnight and wel into the next day. Also bear in mind that most electrical applaincess such as dishwashers/washing machines heat there own water.0 -
