Credit file - Employer details

Hi

I work as a contractor under an umbrella company, recently applied for a credit card which was successful. In the application, I provided my employer details but instead of providing my umbrella company as employer, I gave the the company I work for as employer. Oversight as I didn't really think about it.

Question is, will this be on my record, what happens if I apply for a mortgage where I will have to provide my umbrella company as employer, pay slips will be needed etc. Will this conflict of details with CC application and mortgage application cause any issues?

Thanks in advance

  • Just to keep things simple I would contact the credit card company and ask them to update their records, no risk of any conflicts then, however if someone obtained a credit card then changed jobs before getting a mortgage this must be quite a common occurance so  different employer name between 2 separate applications over a reasonable amount of time could happen in general anyway.

It wont be on your credit file, its not data they store. It potentially however will be in National Hunter system which is there to stop application fraud.

In principle it could be flagged however you'll be providing the extra information etc to the mortgage provider so they'll have confidence that the information you gave them is accurate. Technically it would mean that they could see you didnt tell the whole truth to the CC provider but I'd be surprised if they really cared and it is to a degree explainable given you are working with the end client who you named on the CC.

Many years ago I worked in a call centre operated by BT, employed by Reed, calling Sky customers on behalf of Sky trying to sell a warranty provided by London GI as a coverholder for a panel of insurers... I was very confused as to who I really worked for
  • Thank you Jamesyb123 & DullGreyGuy. I am thinking of contacting CC provider so they can update their records, hopefully they haven't sent the details yet to National Hunter. Appreciate the advice, thank you.
