Told police and insurance company.
Police have the van driving off on ANPR cameras
thing is….I am fully comp with £500 excess, my car will be a write off, probably £3000 to repair, worth £2500
so…to save my no claims, which at the moment is 6 years, should I drop the claim thru the insurance and pursue it privately (will be lucky to get any £ but worth it to get a ccj against other party) or just leave it to the insurance co and lose my ncb?
although proper repairs would be £2500 I can get the car straightened out and looking ok for £1000 and will just keep it until it falls apart

Has the driver been identified? If not you have no one to get a CCJ against.
Is your NCD protected or not? If its not and the driver remains unidentified then your NCD would drop to 3 years (unless you've bought from the likes of Direct Line with their uninsured driver promise)1 -
Phone your insurance company and go through the process. Otherwise you are likely to be out of pocket. You aren't going to get anywhere trying to sue the other driver even if you know who they are.1
-
It still counts as an accident when doing an insurance proposal - a regular complaint when we are required to inform the insurance company eben if not making a claim. Could in theory lose your protected NCD.Police may know who is the last listed owner but that is not proof they were driving at the time.0

Hi
@ sold it the day/s before or it was stolen.
Consult your insurance outfit for gudiance
Re no claims, not sure.
Re ccj if you do get the owner and it is the driver or name it - "ccj" - i bet you if they dont pay at the outset, they don't have a penny to their good name.
@ sped off bumper hanging down as well as parts on the road inc glass - my car did not looked damaged at all hardly a mark on the rear but closer inspection pused the spare tyre wall in close to it - cost to reapir was over 2k if memory serves me well - so not worth pursing the crims imo - i paid excess, affect ncb etc and those days we had the internet but not a lot on it re advice etc or more liley could not be bothered as busy working to earn an honest living

I don't know how much time and effort the Police will put into pursuing this. The van may not be insured but it has had a recent MOT.motorman99 said:Hi all

In theory therefore the Police should be able to get details from the MOT station about who booked the MOT and who paid for it and therefore maybe trace that person, although they may not be the driver who hit your vehicle.
Will the Police bother? Will that help you? It might be worth pushing the Police to try harder if they are doing little or nothing. I don't know but good luck anyway.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
DVLA will know the registered keeper, not owner as there is no register of vehicle owners. The OP could get this detail from the DVLA but the OP cannot force the keeper to identify the driver.Grey_Critic said:Police may know who is the last listed owner but that is not proof they were driving at the time.0 -
The expectation here ( and indeed by the MIB )is that you should claim off your own insurer.motorman99 said:Hi all

It would be very handy if you had an uninsured driver promise on your policy. Have you checked?0 -
The miscreant might care about his credit history less than he cares about stopping. Plus the registered keeper could just deny it was him, which would have no comeback unless he was served a s172 notice by the police which won't unlike speeding ones be bound by a 14 day limit of service.diystarter7 said:Hi

It's not really an "expectation"... the MIB is there as a backstop which is why it wont cover insured losses. There are plenty who decide to deal with incidents without involving their insurers (a fair proportion of those also "forget" to tell their insurers about the incident but that's a separate matter)Jumblebumble said:
