Octopus Discrepancies

Hi Everyone,
Haven't been here for such a long time but hoping someone can help...
I have an In Home Screen/Smart Meter with Octopus Energy and had concerns over the accuracy so me being me did a little experiment to compare usage/bill.
Here are my results...
In Home Screen Calculation £125.93
Octopus Energy App Calculation £174.49
Actual Bill £215.50
I cannot quite understand the point of an In Home Screen to keep an eye on usage when your actual bill is nearly double or am I missing something?
The Octopus energy website states the standing charge is included in the In Home Screen Calculation and VAT doesn't amount to £90

What tariff are you on?
What is/are your unit rates.
Is the IHD using the unit rates you are actually being charged for?
Your IHD shows the amount of energy used in Kwh, is this figure the same as your bill?

What matters is what is shown on your bill - not what is shown on the IHD. Your bill should show the start and end meter readings if you are on a standard tariff. This is what is used for billing. The supplier has no access to IHD costings. Smart tariffs are billed on 30 minute usage and this is easy to check.

The tariffs aren’t automatically sent to your meters: this is a supplier action. For Octopus smart tariffs, they set an equivalent/average unit price. The IHD gets its tariff information from your meters. I suggest you check the smart meter set tariff details versus the tariff that is shown on your bill.

I would check what the unit rates are on your IHD and compare them to your bill.
Then you might be able to track down the discrepancy.2 -
I am with Octopus.
My IHD shows usage for the day, week, month and year.
These figures will never agree with my bill as I am not billed by calendar month, my billing day is the 10th of each month.
Does this explain the difference between the usage on your IHD and the display?
What is your billing period?
What periods do the figures of 1,307 Kwh and 1,454 Kwh relate to?

What periods do the figures of 1,307 Kwh and 1,454 Kwh relate to?I understand it's never going to be totally accurate but nearly £100 difference! The whole reason I got a smart meter and IHD was so I could see my usage and budget but when it's that far out there's no point in even trying to budget.I've sent my figures to Octopus in the hope they can shed some light on it.
Appreciate all your helpI haven't got one!0 -
So what tariff rates is the IHD using, and what are your actual tariff rates? Surely you can find that out.0
