Jet2 Lost Luggage - I won!!! - I think

To cut a long story short - I raised a lost luggage claim against Jet2 after they lost a bag of mine when I went on a city break in Europe last year. Total value claimed from them was around £650 for content and bag. I had to spend 60 Euros replacing essentials (socks, underwear, a few tops) for the few days I was there. Submitted all the receipts and Jet2 declared my bag officially irretrievably lost in writing and have sent me a cheque for the 60 Euros I paid for the emergency replacements and have recommended I pursue the rest through my travel insurance provider.
But here's the rub - I didn't have travel insurance.
Do I try and get Jet2 for the remaining £600ish or do I just cash their cheque and get on with life? Thanks for any advice.

I'd have thought that this should have been presented as two claims - one for emergency replacements (because you needed stuff immediately) and then a separate one for the loss once declared later.
Airlines are bound by the Montreal convention, governing compensation for lost luggage, but this should be a separate heading from emergency clothing replacements - up to you whether or not you wish to pursue the matter but nothing to lose by trying, especially if you have receipts to support the higher figure....0 -
to clarify - the receipts were only for the emergency replacements - not for the original bag or contents

As the OP didn't have travel insurance most of the loss will have to be borne by them. This from the CAA is worth reading https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers/before-you-fly/baggage/lost-delayed-or-damaged-baggage/

Think Jet2 are trying to fob you off here so I'd go back to them. Airlines are responsible if they lose your bag and should be compensating you for it. The rub of course is going to be whats a reasonable value for your bag and contents - how much evidence can you show them, what receipts do you have etc? It's not new for old replacement and they won't compensate for anything they think shouldnt have been in there. I dont think theres much in the way of hard and fast rules but at the very least you should be getting your suitcase replaced and something for your lost items.
If Jet2 are not willing to offer you anything then I think the next step is to make a complaint to the CAA which you can do on their website I think. Jet2 aren't a member of the CAA's ADR scheme. If the CAA decline to take it up then I think it's small claims court as a last resort.0 -

That said, you really should have thought about and taken out travel insurance for your trip.1 -
If you get any money from Jet2 you'll be lucky. Part of the contract with them is that you'll take out Holiday insurance, not necessarily with them. Agree they should compensate you though. From JET2 FAQs
3. What happens if I don't have travel insurance?
There are many benefits to taking out travel insurance, but it’s actually a condition of your contract with us that you take out adequate cover that’s suitable for your needs, from the date of booking. This should cover you if you have to cancel your arrangements or for any emergencies while you’re away.

If having travel insurance is a condition of Jet2's booking contract - how can they accept a reservation from a customer who doesn't have such ?Seems illogical to my simple way of thinking.0

Your insurance would tell you to claim from Jet2 since they have a legal obligation to pay out.0
