Dettol No Touch - Any good?

Anyone here use them?

I like hands free soap dispensers, I bought one from lidl for £8 which after 1 year of the battery compartmet has rusted out. Its a poor design, water gets into the compartments and wrecks it.

Maybe dettol one will be better built? I'm thinking of getting it and then modifying the bottle to make it refillable.

Would like to know if it lasts long and is reliable or not.

We've had the Dettol No-touch for several years now and apart from one that just stopped working last year, they've been great. The batteries last a good 12 months, but the plastic on a couple has started to yellow from the light.

The refills are quite expensive but you can pop the tops off the empty ones using a couple of teaspoon handles and refill them with any hand washing gel. We use some orange stuff that I bought 12 bottles of from Boots for 50p a bottle.

I didn't think they still made them - I've bought a couple of similar dispensers since to replace the broken one but, as you've found, had little success with them.

A couple of mine are branded as Sagrotan, presumably for a foreign market, but are identical to the Dettol.

I think sargotan is the dettol brand in germany, if you look at the sargotan site you'll see their products with the exact design as dettol https://www.sagrotan.de/

(the sword with green circle behind the logo is especially telling).

You can just drill a hole into the the bottom of the refill (the top side when mounted) and put a cork or something on it to stop dirt falling in. Popular mod. I suspect the spoon method will eventually wear down and break the cap.

Some people hotglue a soda bottle cap on the top.

I saw a youtube video on a teardown of the dispenser it seems to be made well and they have  put a lot of rubber seal on the bottom cap to prevent water ingress.
