Home Insurance Renewal

Is there any hope in a situation where I have realised that I have been insured by two companies for almost a year? The most expensive company must have auto renewed whilst I searched and got a much cheaper policy. What surprises me is that I can find no emails or documentation relating to the expensive renewal.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Almost universally policies are set to auto-renewal. It's been credited with significantly reducing the number of people that are uninsured because they forget when their renewal was.
If you speak to them they can undoubtably tell you when the renewal quote was sent and by what mechanism. Insurers have mastered the art of making it look like junk so you throw/delete it without thinking and then the policy renews when you forget your renewal date.
Often insurers are reasonable if you can show you were insured elsewhere but it is a gesture of goodwill rather than a right.1 -
What surprises me is that I can find no emails or documentation relating to the expensive renewal. Most people wait until their renewal letter before buying new insurance. So, it would be unusual to buy it elsewhere without knowing what the existing one is going to be.

So sorry to hear this.
I recently received a renewal notice and responded I wouldn't be renewing with them. I'm surprised to find an email this afternoon asking why!£216 saved 24 October 20142
