British Gas HomeCare boiler service... do they need meter access?

My partner has booked British Gas to do their annual service as part of our homecare cover. I've just realised I've managed to take the garage key with me to work where the gas meter is located. They've got full access to the boiler as it's in another room & the flue etc, but does anyone know if they need meter access to isolate or do they just check the boilers function?
Whoops.. just wanting to know if I need to ring the poor bloke to cancel!

It's not just meter, it's a gas valve next to it. I'm no expert in servicing, but I think the engineer might need access to the valve.

I have BG cover and they have never needed to access the meter. Only if there was a gas leak discover might it become a problem.

Only if they needed to isolate the supply. BG won't take long, he may not even take the front panel off...No free lunch, and no free laptop

Ah interesting. I had a local guy and was surprised that he didn't even remove the front panel. That's where the parts to be serviced are on mine. But no, even the year before when he did a proper job he didn't need access to the gas meter.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Seriously the most important thing is access to the meter, it needs a tightness test for one thing kind of mandatory but taking readings at the meter is also required. Whether it be a service or a gas safety check the meter access is very important.TELLIT01 said:I have BG cover and they have never needed to access the meter. You need to ask them why they don't need access to the meter and see what nonsense they come out with.

Servicing my boiler has always included a gas pressure test which is done to check for leaks in the supply pipework, this is done at the meter.

The person servicing my boiler has always needed access to the meter. As above, I would be concerned that any service done without meter access was deficient.0
