Changing car insurance during a claim

Hi all, i recently had a non fault accident (18/12/2022) with video footage, and awaiting repair currently predicted to be March as the damage is low. My insurance is due for renewal at the end of Feb and they want to increase my premium by 50% which i'm not happy with, there is an added complication that being i had another non fault accident in 2019 again with video footage. i have done some price checks and they come out at even cheaper than i am already paying but i'm not sure how i stand with the claim still being in the early stages.

What does your renewal notice state about claims and NCD?

All open claims are typically treated as fault and NCD impacting which may explain the uplift in premiums. Have you mirrored what they say about the claim and NCD from your renewal notice to the new quotes or have you put them down as non-fault and full NCD?

Once the claim is resolved they will refund some of the extra, but you will have to claim the rest back from the third party.

You can switch insurers if you like, you just need to be careful that you tell them exactly what is happening about the claim and how it affects your NCD.

Many thanks, i think i will ring my insurance and express my concerns over the increase and see if this is indeed based on it being a fault claim.
