UK Staycation / Rail Strikes Insurance

A while ago I booked a UK trip and hotel stay for Easter 2023.

The hotel booking does not have a cancelation policy and payment was taken at the time of booking.

As rail strikes are still ongoing I am starting to get worried if I will now be able to get to the hotel.

Does anyone know of any suitable staycation travel insurance to cover not been able to travel to a UK based hotel?

Most of the travel insurance companies  cover UK holidays when accommodation has been booked for  a minimum time.

However, insurance cover is for unexpected events. Potential rail strikes are are a known risk at present so it is unlikely you would find any insurance company willing to cove for them.

I would suggest you investigate alternative ways of getting there, if necessary.

  • We're in a similar boat; a London theatre trip (the first in years) booked last November for this April 1st.  I really resent that households are subsidising the railways to the tune of hundreds of pounds a year each when the workers are so often on strike.  No-one would give me a 10% pay rise or bail out the company if customers turned away from our product in droves. In future we'll stick to local events we can drive to.
  • Do they also cover for travelling in your own car if the weather is too bad to drive safely.
