Moving from prepayment metre to credit metre for gas

Send us a pic of the leccy meter. If smart meters have been fitted, the leccy meter will have a comms hub mounted on top of it. Visibly obvious.
They wouldn't fit a smart gas meter without also fitting a smart leccy meter, as it would be pointless, as it couldn't send data to the DCC network.
But, if it is a smart meter, it probably won't work when switched to Octopus anyway, as it'll be SMETS1.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The electricity meter is an old dial one. Even though I'm looking to switch just gas, the leccy meter will have some bearing on it too?macman said:Send us a pic of the leccy meter. If smart meters have been fitted, the leccy meter will have a comms hub mounted on top of it. Visibly obvious.

In which case your “smart” gas meter will be operating in dumb mode as it needs the hub associated with eccentricity SM to report back to base, and your current supplier cannot do a remote switch to to credit mode.theonenonly said:

In order to switch your gas to Octopus you will need a SM fitted to the electric supply.0 -
Octopus can actually switch if you're not on a smart meter in prepayment mode apparently.Keep_pedalling said:

It's only if you have a smart meter on pay as you go/prepayment mode there will be a loss of gas according to the wording in the original post.0 -
Rule of thumb with those meters is if you put the card in the meter it isn't smart (The card tells the meter how much you bought).theonenonly said:
My credit history is fine. Issue is I don't know if it is a smart meter.Spoonie_Turtle said:If it is a smart meter, is your credit history better so can you set up your own account with them? You could close your Dad's and open your own, as if he's moving out and you're moving in. Then get it switched to credit.
If you don't put the card in, it must get that information overthe air, and so should be smart.
(There is another brand that has a keypad on for entering a number form your receipt)0
