BG paying Government discount taken out of our Direct Debit payments !!!

BG is paying the government discount out of our Direct Debit payments, they took the £66 from November out of the total amount we paid. I made a chat and a call to them and they are convinced it is correct. How to deal with this?

  • I am with BG and pay a monthly direct debit. They refund the £67/66 about two days later back to my current account and they have done it this way every month. Your payments don’t seem to be monthly so perhaps there has been a misunderstanding

  • 330.78 + 400 - 66 = 664.78 so the maths is correct.

CR denotes a credit to your account i.e. money you paid to BG
The £66 Government discount is shown as a refund and presumably has been credited back into your bank account.

So this looks correct apart from the fact that the section you have shown shows no indication of refunds in November or December.

To clarify - you are saying that you have checked your bank account, and have not had the EBSS money refunded to you?

I think I get what BlueberryHills is saying.

He has been given the rebate out of his own money, because BG took £400 instead of £334, and then paid him £66.

They aren't. What they should do is what Octopus do, and only take £334 in the first place, (because they add the £66 on to make the monthly credit £400).

The monthly payment should be £400. The payment made was £400, then they refunded £66 of it, so the actual payment is reduced to £334 overall.(The credit to the account is still £400 though, so £66 comes from that Nice Mr Sunak and his chums- well us actually, it isn't as if HMG magic the money from thin air)

Hi Richard, i made payments with my direct debit, BG managed to mess it up again so December was not taken, the point is BG has taken the £66 out of what we paid in, because we paid in total 730.78 and NOT the 664.78

Indeed I paid my own £66 because the 730.78 which are my payments to BG are gone down to the 664.78 !!! only this 664 and not my 730 forget the pennys for the moment... only this 664 is put forward to my bill :-( and not my 730 to pay the bill, arghhh

So you usually pay £730 over this period, but they have only taken £664 - is that right?

So the £66 they didn’t take was left in your bank account - if you make a manual payment to BG to add that to your account, that would put the EBSS money where you want it, no?

  • The £330.78, is BG thinking that we had to much credit, so in all their wisdom they changed it from our £400 per month, we called them they said they would correct it, hence nothing been taken in December, how clever they are, we didn't notice as December is busy month...

Hi, no we pay by Direct Debit £400 per month, then they swapped us to their new system and thought we where in credit and gave us the credit back, so we started in the new system with 00.00 Because they thought we paid to much, they adjusted our DD and took the 330.78. I discovered it and told them not to change our DD because we wanted to pay in because winter was coming... so they messed up [as usual] and did not take December... and took the 66 out of what we paid in!

You are only looking at one side of the bill, take a look at the total charges and you should see the £66 credit being applied there to reduce the amount owed...
