BT Sport and broadband deals

I'm feeling hugely overwhelmed by the amount of choice available for TV and broadband packages. Please can anyone give me some advice on where on earth to start!?

Our current supplier is BT. We pay £86 p/m which includes their Fibre Halo 2 with complete broadband and their BT sports pack and "classic" (not sure what "classic" is). We are currently out of contract. According to our bill we are getting 45mb download speed but I don't know if we are actually achieving this.

We have an old house over 4 floor with thick walls. So we currently make use of BT''s complete broadband which provides us with boosters to help get the wifi around the house.

We would like to keep the BT sports package, we use it all year round. If it makes any difference we'd prefer it in HD.

We stream a lot of Netflix.

Our current bill is in my partners name. Does this mean I could be considered a new BT customer to make the most of their new customer deals?

We don't have Virgin in our area yet.

There just seems like there are so many different options I don't know where to start! Any advice would be greatly received. Thank you.

You have a few options... and some are dependant on your circumstances.

BT Sport can be got natively on Virgin, Sky and BT services. As Virgin is not in your area, your choices are Sky or BT.

Plusnet does let you watch BT sport natively **IF* you have a Sky set top box, dish and pay a subscription of £17.15 to Plusnet on top of your broadband price (you don't need a Sky subscription, just a Sky dish and Set top box) - https://www.plus.net/bt-sport/

If you're prepared to watch BT Sports on the btsport.com website or the BT sport app you can use any Internet provider and pay BT just for sport. This could work out the cheapest, with £25 for the BT sport monthly pass on top of your Broadband.

Onto your wireless... as you have 4 floors and thick walls... moving to other broadband providers will mean a new router, which might make your wireless signal poor in the house.

Our current bill is in my partners name. Does this mean I could be considered a new BT customer to make the most of their new customer deals?
You might get away with this if your partners name is different and they have a different bank account.

Have you checked your My BT for any personalised offer ,
AFAIK being a Halo customer your price  should be guaranteed to be at least as ‘good’ as  what a new customer  joining BT would pay , which for Fibre 2 ( upto 80Mb ) with complete WiFi , and BT Sport in HD is about £65 which I think is approximately what you currently pay for ( breaks down roughly as £30 broadband, £23 Sport in HD , £12 complete WiFi Disk ( or disks if subsequently more are needed to cover the home ) , obviously  you may need a landline ( add £5 ) but this is the starting point for any negotiation over price etc.
TBH , you have nothing to lose by calling BT Retention and asking what they can do to keep you as a customer, having a competitors price for the same or similar products is worthwhile when discussing pricing etc.
FYI , if you only get 45Mb , Fibre 1 may be better ( cheaper ) as that’s upto 55Mb , if your line can only deliver 45, primarily because of how far away the fibre cabinet is from you home, there may be no point paying for the upto 80Mb service if you won’t get near that speed.

FYI : BT Sport app Monthly Pass is increasing to £29.99/mth from 17 Feb.
