Hargreaves partial transfer in

Hi

Has anyone partially transferred in a stocks & shares ISA into Hargreaves Lansdown. I want to transfer in a cash balance and leave investments with my other provider.

I know it's possible from their FAQ, but I am curious about real experiences, as I have had bad experiences with other providers before when transferring and this is not a straight forward transfer.

Transferring Cash is more straight forward than in-specie...

Have you signed up for the transfer cashback offer ?

  • No, was not even aware of it... Many thanks.

Checked with my current provider, they confirm it's allowed.

HL FAQ state they need a covering letter with a postal application.

I got my cashback from HL on 26th Jan, far sooner than "the last 10 working days of the next month(in-specie, submitted on 12th Jan, completed on the 23rd)

I wasn't aware they did partial transfers. The online ISA transfer didn't have an option to. Should have done so to keep my iweb ISA open. I'm not sure if I need to pay £100 again now if using that (my iweb GIA stays open)

What I'm about to say refers to a pension, not ISA, so not 100% relevant. Might give you an idea though:

I've partially transferred my workplace pension to HL a couple of times in the last few years, including once last year. Every time the money got stuck. This resulted in me contacting HL and them explaining why the other provider made a mistake. The money does always arrive, after a week or so of me chasing.

While I appreciate that the issue may not be HL's fault it's annoying that I have to contact them each time to get it sorted, rather than them fixing the problem without my interference. On the plus side the transfer has always completed within 2 or 3 weeks.

I have always transferred cash, if I were to do an in specie transfer (probably not possible from my workplace pension anyway) then I imagine this would cause more issues.
  • So that's 11 days to complete the transfer.

HL FAQ state partials need to be done by letter or phone. I'm calling tomorrow to confirm the process before starting the ball.

I expected my current provider to block it, but they have already confirmed it's possible, as long as money is from previous years subs.

Yes, fasted S&S ISA transfer I've ever had :)

My work pension transfers tend to be fast as well to SIPPs but also cash due to different funds, but not so far my SIPP to SIPP transfers (in-specie), last was 3 months.
