Going through my deceased Dad's records. He advised me he sorted out the NRB  transfer when my mum passed away in October 2020 but there is no record in the house of the transfer occurring.

I have looked on the HMRC website and it states there is a deadline of 24 months from the date of deathto transfer NRB and RNRB....which we appear to  have exceeded

Does this mean we have lost these allowances from my mum ?

I’m not sure what your father meant by sorting out the transfer.

If your mother left everything to him as her spouse then her NRB would be available to use for your father.

Are you sure the HMRC website said ‘transfer’ rather than claim?

If your father is the second death then you have two years from his date of death to claim any transferred NRB or RNRB that you need.

Is his estate large enough that you will need to use your mothers NRB and any RNRB fir either of them? If not, then there is no problem anyway.

Thank you Poppystar  :) , I was obviously reading it wrong with the 24 month rule, you have saved me a sleepless night

Estate is about 500k with house and all Gifts taken into account so I can use 2 x NRB

On the  online probate application I assume I tick no when it asked "Did you complete IHT forms to report the estate’s values"

    Thanks again
