Why does salt make me rant?

  • I buy Lo-Salt and the Saxa version has gone up, it is £1.89.  Like other own brand products in Tesco here is a permanent gap on the Tesco's shelf for their own brand.  "Out of Stock".  Weeks go by before Tesco own brand cat food sachets are in.  I've taken to buying a box when it is occasionally on the shelves.  Still we all know why there are shortages.  So many benefits of course ...

Tried going without salt? From a health point of view, wouldn’t do any harm
I am not at all fond of salt and can detect it a mile off. The other day I had an almond croissant from the local bakery and it was noticeable, sent me running for even more coffee! And then yesterday we shared a plant-based ready meal which I know must have had plenty of salt in it yet needed table seasoning, which for me is incredibly rare. So I was glad to have my Saxa to hand, bought years ago (2 big bottles for 99p IIRC). Whilst I can understand the point about inflation, it is still pennies vs usage compared to the increase in items that we consume in the blink of an eye.

Try looking at it from the perspective of usage, we only use salt regularly for bread and salting pasta water. I reckon we use around 50g a week so a massive 20p-40p depending on the salt.
