Hi Molerat thanks for your reply
I finally got through after 59 minutes (so it is worth hanging on)
The adviser suggested I pay 6 years of contributions which would cost me 4893.20 and then a further 2 years at a later date if I wanted to.
She did warn me though that increasing my state pension might impact on the tax I pay on my final salary pension. I need to do some calculations to work out if it is in my favour or not
There is also the other unknown - will I live long enough to benifit.....0 -
VCs pay back gross in around 150 weeks. Even paying 40% tax is still worth it. Way better value than spending that money on an annuity.

Hi Molerat
Thanks again for your help - I will be pursuing the extra 6 years as you say it is worth the outlay.
Would it be possible to get your advice regarding my wifes pension - she has the following forecast- Maximum amount of forecast 203.85
- Current amount up to April 2022 185.24
- Years you have available going forward until you reach State Pension Age 5
- Number of full years prior to April 2016 35
- Number of full years after April 2016 none
- Years which are not filled
- Whether there is a COPE mentioned and if so what the amount is (this will show by clicking a link there is a statement along the lines of ' like many, you have been contracted out.. 14.21

She needs 4 more to reach the max, 3 will go to £202.71 and the 4th will add a final £1.14. Again only gaps 2016-17 and later will add to the pension. Is there any possibility of (either of) you picking up and grandparent credits for looking after the grandchildren whilst the parent is at work ?1

Unfortunately they live too far away for any regular duties - thanks for your help again though.1

Can anyone advise the phone number to obtain the 16digit reference number plus hmrc bank details so I can pay for this year's ni contribution.?
I did it last year without a problem, but can't find the number. I don't need to talk to an advisor over my options. TIA0 -
