BBC One HD Regions

It's low key as big changes go but the BBC is currently rolling out updates to replace the BBC One England SD regional services with the HD equivalent. BBC One South has already migrated, BBC One East and East Midlands are due to change; today on Freesat and tomorrow on the Sky service. If you don't have an HD receiver don't worry, there will be a BBC One England SD service to replace your local SD variation.

Which brings me to my question. Freesat and Sky both have the BBC regions listed down in the 950 channel numbers, supposedly. No probs on the Sky box, I've often watched a different region on Sky by going to 95n, where n is the specific one I want. Freesat should be the same but entering e.g. 953 (or 0953) returns 'programme number not available'. I can see regional variations from 0067 to 0083 but none are HD and by now I'd expect East & East Mids to be HD. Clicking through every channel number doesn't reveal any BBC One regional HD broadcasts and the picture is clearly SD. What am I missing? What's the correlation between Freesat listing the regions as being in the 950s but the on-screen guide having them at 0067-0083?

Sony Bravia KD55A8 with a sat feed to both sat tuners, from the same dish that feeds the Sky Q box. Done the full rescan earlier this afternoon, still zilch.

  • Give me a min while I find the link that might explain.
  • Can I suggest you read the article then the following comments. I don't understand what they're talking about, but it's reassuring to see the list of dates each region is changing over. I'm in South, but when setting my TV up years ago, I entered a Plymouth postcode as I wanted Southwest news, so my changeover date is 13th.

  • Thanks Copter, but that discussion doesn’t add anything that wasn’t already known.

If anyone is in the East or East Mids region and watching on FreeSat it would be useful to know the ch number that the HD version is on. Not 101, that’s swapped automatically based on postcode. What does the guide show?

Just checked a Humax Freesat channel line up:

    BBCOne EMidHD Channel 952
    BBCOne East HD 953
    BBC SthHD 961

  • For Sky viewers, BBC 1HD will be on Channel 101.

    See Dolor's post at 10:48.

My Sony is still not showing any changes for East / East Mids, nor is the Sky box. No worries - it'll happen over the next few hours.

The expectation is that BBC One HD for your local region will be on 101 once the relevant HD service starts.

Back to the original question though. ^^^^

How or why does the EPG on a Sony tv have regional progs at 0067 - 0083 when all the guides and full lists have regional channels from 950-990? It's that correlation that's proving difficult to track down.

Yes. I think they mentioned on my local news programme (North West) in April 2021 that it was happening, and the email reply said "Yes, we will be broadcasting in HD soon" back then. I'm getting fed up of having to switch channel just for the short local news programme.

Presuming this also covers those of us on Freeview too, not just Freesat.
