Claiming for cancelled holiday due to illness

Hi, some advice please.
When I took out my annual travel insurance I declared that I had a Kidney Stone (had it for 2 years) and the “risk was accepted” by the insurer. Unfortunately 11 months after taking the policy out and 2 weeks before my holiday my stone decided to move and caused me considerable pain. I ended up in being treated in hospital and having a lithotripsy. I was told by the hospital that “I could not travel” (the consultant wrote a letter to that effect). I am claiming on my insurance but the company are insisting that I get my own registered GP to fill out a “Medical Certificate”. This has many questions such as when he first treated me for this illness, what was his diagnosis, can he confirm I could not travel etc. I have explained that my GP doesn’t even know that I have had a stone as I was treated by the hospital but they are insisting they will not proceed until my GP completes one. Obviously my GP cannot fill one out.

Presumably this is a NHS GP and NHS Hospital? In which case your GP can see your hospital stay etc.
Your GP can and will fill one out and happily charge the fee for doing so0 -
You used to be given a letter for your GP when you were discharged from hospital but nowadays it is all done electronically and a discharge 'letter' will have gone to GP and can be seen and/or downloaded at the practice.2025 Decluttering Campaign 431/2025 🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟
