Car insurance problem
Hi guys,
i got problem with my car insurance. I had accident 3 years ago, month after i changed my insurer for new. at that time i was 100% sure that accident wasn't my fault so i declare that information on my new policy.
6 months after previous insurance company sent me letter that accident was my fault and i didnt update my existing policy since. I driving like that for 2.5 years.
What i should do now? Change car insurance for new? I got 3 months left for renewal and will have 3 years no accident premiums but can i use premiums on new policy if i kinda lied to previous insurer? Can someone advise please? Or what happen if i call my existing policy and tell them everything? I have no idea what should i do now

Why after 2.5 years is it suddenly a worry for you now?
Having bought this policy under false pretenses they'd be entitled to void the policy and keep the premiums. You'd then have to admit to that for the rest of your life for all your car, home etc insurance. Given you'd be admitted to the issue they may decide to be more lenient -v- if they'd caught you out but there is no requirement for them to treat you differently.0 -
It wasn't my intention to lie when I started that policy but I understand that its all my fault. What if I open new policy with different insurance with 0 years no claim premiums declared and if I inform about accident in past will that helps? Or there is still risk that they may cancel my policy for some reasons?0

Hi OP
Sorry, could you elaborate on how you was a "hundred per cent sure ..not your fault"?
Are you saying you guessed? Even if you did, why not then declare it when you found out?
Thanks in advance.0 -

Many thanks for the update, appreciated.
The question asked when signing up for new insurance often worded around have you been in any accidents and not just claims - what did you answer to that?
The insurance may ask you why you had not updated earlier so be prepared.
Good luck.

Thanks in advance.I suspect the OP was confused by the Insurance definition of "at fault" (= insurer paid out and didn't get the money back) not being the commonly understood one (= they caused the accident).Easy to do if you simply claim on your own insurance and forget about it (which is why you bought fully comp. in the first place)I notice now the "previous accidents and claims" section has "recovery made" for you to tick (no doubt if you remember that the car had to be recovered by the AA.........)If they try to cancel the policy I'd be escalating a complaint to the Ombudsman as there was an honest mistake rather than a deliberate lie.The insurer should just recalculate the policy cost with an at fault claim and ask for the extra money, unless for some reason they can insure someone with a non fault accident but not an at fault one.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Okay I understand that I lied to my current insurer and it can cause big consequences but
If I open new policy will be honest with past accidents etc. Do not declare premiums from current insurance. Will they still find out?0
