Bought a car of a dealer, it's developed a fault which is terminal, he's accepted the car back but wants the V5 with it.
I'm a bit loathe to send it back till he's reimbursed my purchase price.
A V5 isn't proof of ownership or is it?
I'm assuming he wants the whole V5 back so can keep registered keepers down?

Total debt 2003 £29658

Debt now £ 21 but haggling!,Haggled now gone up!

Sorry,forgot the bloody card!!!!!!,was £6000 now down to £4896,now down to £3198,now £2756!

It isn’t proof of ownership - see the top of page 1. And he can’t change the number of keepers.

He can't really take it back without the V5, so I'd just give him it.

Also, if you give him the car but don't update the keeper to the dealer, any parking tickets or driving tickets will go to you.

    Hi OP
    You are correct.
Ask the dealer when the money will go into your account,
When did you buy it and did you pay any amount via cc and is it under 30k?

Give him the V5 and I'm assuming the V5 is in your name, therefore action the V5 as per instructions?

    Thanks

If you sell your car to a motor dealer, you should fill in the yellow section of the V5C registration certificate, and pass the rest of the form onto the motor dealer.

I know your not selling it back to them  but you need to fill in the yellow bit and send to dvla take a picture of it filled in with dealers name etc

    Hi OP
    You are correct.
Which bit? There is at least one statement that isn't correct re number of keepers. V5 isn't proof of ownership either.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
