I am interested in this,if a house is built to passive house standards with airtight construction and mechanical ventilation what happens if there is a prolonged power cut.

I realise if you were building from new it is unlikely that a gas supply would be installed but do the regulations allow a scenario were you could have a gas hob in a passive house.

I have browsed some webpages but cannot see it mentioned.

I would presume they could just open windows.

Doubt if that would be written into regs.

So the powercut thing was a red herring then & you're just wondering if a passivhaus can use gas.

If I was having a red herring I would definitely be interested in good ventilation.

Had a cursory glance through those links provided, could not see any, just open window, mentioned.

For a room volume of >10 m3 a permanent air vent is not required for a domestic oven, hotplate or grill.  The room must have openable windows – which will be the case in most Passivhaus buildings. There is no reference to a minimum infiltration rate (assuming the MVHR was not working) into the building which was of concern to the social housing provider as the building was so air tight.

ETA,  i guess few people if any would even consider gas in a passivhaus,,  just doesn't make sense. & thjose that do will meet confused looking powers that be.
ETA2 , i'm guessing the regs are the same for gas hob whether passivhaus or not, in that there must be adequate ventilation, be it windows or fans.
