In hospital and been pinged

Hi,

I’m in hospital following an operation carried out on Friday. I’m sorry I’m super anxious.

For the first time ever today I have had notification from the CovidApp I’ve been in close contact with some one with Covid19 with yesterdays date.

I showed it discreetly to one of the nurses who said don’t think we go by that now so I can ignore?

Would you delete the app? given what nurse said.

I’d had all vaccine’s up to date. The last hospital I was in before transfer to a specialist ward had covid cases.

I feel hot but that isn’t usual being in hospital I found and woke with a croaky voice/funny breathing which they put down to post surgery and gave me a steroid in to cannula. Then the notification came through.

The nurse is correct. No one is being contacted now. Just ignore it.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

    Thank you.
I have deleted the app now.
Hospital ran LFT on my insistence with all the health anxiety I must have going on and that came back negative.

are you sure it was the app? there were some scam texts going around at one point with a link to order the test
  • Yeah they said I would be only be a little ill, certainly not as bad due to having protection of vaccines I haven’t had covid in all this time and always tested negative on home lft’s.

Sorry I regret being silly, I just found it upsetting as I’ve had surgery to stop progression of a spinal condition but which can’t cure me. Strapped to a bed with life stopped still.

Definitely an App notification but on an old smartphone 6. But alas I never had a ping before either so wrong time to freak me out.

  • App doens't make any sense anymore unfortunately.
  • Update: one of the lovely health care assistants has come into today, whom I haven’t seen all week, who was on duty last Saturday night freely saying she have tested positive for Covid before going home Sunday morning so I suppose that was it!

I very much doubt that as it would mean that she would have to have the app and notified the app that she had Covid which would then ping you but as the app is no longer in use by the majority I would say that’s possible coincidence.

If she was actively using the app, she would be pinging daily and all of her clients would be too. I have 2 friends who are nurses and they were told to not install the app when it came out as they were told that they would be pinged every day which was pointless as they were going into work with Covid patients daily.

If your fully vaccinated why are you worried for? The vaccine is safe and effective and your fully protected, right?
Not necessarily. My Mum has compromised immunity due to a pre-existing medical condition and has had 6 (possibly 7) doses, including a third primary dose, but still has no/negligible protection. There are many other people in the same/similar position.

     still has no/negligible protection.

And how did you measure this?
The vaccinations and boosters do not give immunity. The reduce the effects of Covid if caught, and, to a certain extent make it more difficult to catch in the first place.
However, like the flu vaccine, it can only cover the strains that they know about, although I believe the newer vaccines are more effective against new strains.

Antibody test - in most people, the vaccinations should produce antibodies. These should give protection against infection and reduce the severity.

It was confirmed by the haematologist that her pre-existing condition means that her immune system probably wouldn’t produce antibodies. She also had 15 months of chemo which will have further compromised her immune system.
