You'd be better with your own site selling them but even then you may struggle for traffic.
The best option would be writing your own. That can be made easy though if you buy some private label material (which you can do cheaply on ebay) and then make it your own.
I think the ebay market at first site may look competitive but most people jump in at the deep end without research. Just a little time working out how to beat them (which isn't hard as most people would have done nothing in this area) and then it's not as competitive as it seems.
Having your own website can also work, a good way to get traffic is by article marketing.0 -
I am very interested in selling ebooks. After a lot of googling and looking on ebay, it seems the best selling ebooks are the trashy looking, "how to get rich" ones, selling for 50p. Am I missing something here? After paying the ebay fees, how does anyone make any money? It occured that people were using the cheap ebooks as loss leaders, to encourage buyers to purchase some of the more expensive ones but after looking at feedback records, that doesn't seem to be the case.
I've had a couple of good ideas for writing my own ebooks but obviously this would take time and my finances are in such dire straits that I need to find a second income fast.
I do sell things on ebay already and have searched for products to buy and then sell on. Never managed to find anything because every time I do find a product which looks saleable, I find it on ebay being sold so cheaply that the profit margins must be miniscule. The same seems to be the case with ebooks.
No one to give up easily, I do think there can be a way with ebooks but .... I'm scratching my head over this. I don't expect anyone to give their secrets away but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've written my own ebooks & sold them originally for £19.99 each or both for £30. I made significantly more than £3K - more like £30K in the first year.
The key is:
a) a niche subject that people need to know the answer to "right now."
b) your own website - much better than eBay
c) DO NOT USE PDFs - people can strip them down, even if they're "secure" & nick the content. You'll then find it all over the net. Use something like ebook creator. Its cheap & the ebook is locked to the computer its opened on so it cant be passed around.
I now work from home selling my own stuff as well.0 -
He's just showing the content of his site and demonstrating the potential. And yes it is about earning money. This is where word of month etc can tell you the real ones from the scams. Thats why I posted one of my earning accounts, more so to show that you can achieve more and that John on his site isn't showing you something you can never achieve which a lot of sites do.
Just been on the 90daypowerseller site, out of interest.
As I tried to navigate away from the site a chat icon pops up with the following text:
Lauren Says:Hey Wait! If you order now I can offer you a $30 Discount.... To take advantage of this one-time offer just
Lauren Says:And with our 8 week guarantee you can purchase with confidence, if you don't make money we will refund you the full purchase price! That's how sure we are this can work for you!
Lauren Says:When you are ready, type 'hi' and we can get started...
I'm not saying it's a scam, I just think this is a very bad way to do business. They are more than happy for people to pay nearly $100 for it, but if you are unsure then you can have $30 off.
Save your money, don't bother.0 -

Yes, this was my instinct. Too many trashy looking websites promising you the earth. If it were that easy, we'd all be rich.0 -

Thanks you so much for the advice. How easy is ebook creator? Is it like a basic word processing package? Some of the ebook builders look a bit complicated. Also, I need to find one which is Mac compatible. How do you generate traffic to your own website to sell these books?

It's marketing. It's proven to increase conversions (sales). You'll see 30% off in shops everywhere when people previously would have paid the full price. Why can't you do it on the net?
If your going to be put off by marketing that works and methods that actually make money then I don't know what your doing in an "up your income" section.
It's like that girl on the apprentice last year who didn't want to sell the sweets because she thought they were expensive and gave them away. I can't remember what Alan Sugar said to her but it was something along the lines someone may be very good at one thing, but that doesn't menu they'll be good at something else.
The long and the short of it if you don't like the way marketing/running your own business works then don't even start. That will include most of the threads in this part of the forum with the exception of the ones that won't make you any money!
If you adapt these ideas however to either running a website or use marketing promotional methods on eBay to get ahead of the competition then you'll make your profit grow. If you do nothing you won't make any money. It goes back to Johns basic message on his website, copy what he does, he knows what he's doing!0 -
I am not convinced that eBooks is that viable as an income stream - not unless you can offer something particularly unique, anyway.
A better option for making money online from writing might be one of these sites:
http://www.associatedcontent.com
http://www.constant-content.com
http://www.!!!!!!

(for some reason the post in the referrers section disappeared - I don't know why. I can't be bothered posting it again, so just go to the sites and make your own mind up. I can give referral links if you like, but I'm not going to post information if it is going to be zapped)0 -

I was saying that having looked at many websites selling ebooks, most of them appear to be trashy "Get Rich Quick" schemes. The tone of the books is sensationalist, promising riches that seem too good to be true (remember the motto, "if it's seems to good to be true, then it probably is"). Noting also, the spelling and punctuation errors on these sites, then how could anyone with a modicum of intelligence take them seriously? I would be embarrassed to sell stuff like that, most people just laugh at it.
TTMCMschine has said that s/he has written books, implying they were good quality and sold them for decent amounts. I would prefer to go along this path. You can still offer incentives and discounts, as TTMCMschine has done from a website people would take seriously, rather than irritating pop ups and thousands of exclamation marks. There is more than one way to skin a cat, there is more than one way to market your product. It's about pride in the way you do business. I think this is what go4it was referring to.0 -
