Advice on trip to Greece

Planning first ever trip to Greece in May. Would like to visit Athens but be based within traveling distance, preferably by a beach. Any suggestions welcome. Also tips on money saving ways of doing it please. Would like a decent hotel. Thanks

Check AirBnb instead of the hotels. Stayed in couple of hotels in Athens (budget once) and all of them were kinda dodgy.
