Travel Insurance: Awaiting medical investigation query

Hi,
We have booked a 2 week holiday in August (2 adults and 2 children) and want to book travel insurance.  However, I am awaiting a gastroscopy to confirm if I have coeliac disease.  If I declare coeliac disease on the policy, it doesn't seem to alter the policy in anyway but obviously this has not yet been diagnosed.  Would anyone please have any advice for what I should do in the meantime?  My procedure is booked for next month but it could take several months for the results to come back.  Ideally I want to take insurance out now so we are covered for everything else and understand I would not be covered for a medical condition I haven't disclosed but don't know the best thing to do? Thanks very much in advance if anyone has any suggestions.

I would disclose the circumstances in full to the insurer and see what they say.
Maybe a situation where a phone application where you speak to someone is best rather than a web form.

Otherwise since the holiday is in August you could simply wait until you know either way.

Hi, I know we're not allowed to discuss medical conditions on this forum but I don't think your question falls under the heading of 'giving advice about your condition'.

I saw the Martin Lewis show last week where he was saying that it's not a bad idea to get your travel insurance in place as early as you can just in case something prevents you from actually travelling.

However, in your case, you really don't know what the diagnosis is yet so you will have to wait until you do. If it helps, I've had two gastroscopies and it didn't take long for the results to come back for either - certainly not several months.

A couple of links which may be helpful -

As you are awaiting an investigation it is unlikely you will be able to purchase insurance as the risk is unknown.

Your only option is to wait, have the tests and purchase insurance once you have the results and diagnosis.

    Hi

Initially, I almost countered your post but then I thought, hold on mate. You are spot on.

OP and others, before booking a hols and if you want travel insurance, think about any medical investigations/appts you are waiting for. Get these done and then book hol and take out cover same day.  A co-worker at my last place of work , book hold a year in advance and was chating to me and i asked how much the insurance cost for the family as they were going to usa and we know how expensive theiy are for medical - he said "not yet." Week later he broke his leg playing footy with mates - it was a good job this was months efore he was due to travel - so if booking hols, think re insurance costs and if you are waiting for any media investigations or criminal ones for that matter
    Thanks

  • Thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate it.  Also to MalMonroe for reassurance regarding the gastroscopy!  I will take your very helpful advise and call a couple of insurance companies to see what they say but also will likely not book insurance until I've had the results.  I just need to try not to be so nervous about being uninsured in the meantime!
    Thanks again!

Call the potential insurance company, don't try completing the information on line.  If you do you will almost certainly be told, at the end of the form, that you need to call them.
