Dental partial not correct one

Options
My dentist agreed to make me a cobalt chrome dental plate, I had impressions taken he was very brusque did not give me a quote or any other information
when I went to collect it he had made me an acrylic partial. I was very upset, he told me he was disappointed but to go home and try it for 3 weeks!
Can I ask for a refund I am so annoyed and upset.

    I'm sorry you are upset.
However annoyance, upset and brusqueness do not figure in consumer rights.

If your dentist agreed to make a cobalt chrome plate but he made an acrylic partial instead, that sounds like a clear breach of contract.
What exactly does you contract with him say? That is critical.

What price did you pay? I am quite sure there is a big difference in price between cobalt chrome and acrylic ones!

I'm assuming this is a private dentist as NHS don't do cobalt chrome ones?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  •   He charged me the price for the acrylic one which was £270, I was happy to pay more for the chrome one which I know is about double the price. I am now without a chrome dental plate and out of pocket for an acrylic plate I never asked for.

My dentist never gave me anything in writing he showed me a metal one which he said would not cover as much of my palate as an acrylic one, and he would go ahead and take impressions and get this made for me.It was only at the when it was ready I went to collect it he put it straight in my mouth didn't show me if and I realized it was not what I asked for.
  • I had the exact same experience a couple of years ago,  I discussed three times with my NHS dentist the best solution for a fixed bridge that couldn’t be replaced as the anchoring tooth had broken.   I was offered a cheap plastic denture at about £230 a semi fixed metal bridge which I understood would clip on at approx £1000 or dental implants at approx £7k.   I chose the middle cost option and discussed it and 3 different visits.  Fast forward after several cancelled (by the dentist) appointments, about a year after the first consultation I went for the fitting and was presented with a nasty ill fitting plastic denture, that made my speech slurred!  The dentist denied that I had ordered the metal option and said I should try them but said I would have to pay for both sets if I then wanted the metal option.   I really should have raised a formal complaint but  was so upset I couldn’t trust him to put it right.  I know now that I  should have been given a formal treatment plan showing costs but it wasn’t provided.  Eventually I went to private dentist and invested in 2 implants at £4K,  a huge cost but so worth it.

That is exactly why I am concerned I feel it is my word against his, although when I asked him why he did not given me a metal one, he said and quote " I am disappointed" not half as disappointed as I felt on the day. .I am due back in 2 weeks I am going to have to ask for a refund
The acrylic one chipped a bit of tooth and made my guns bleed it is also sitting saint in my mouth. I am really unhappy.
  • You can get a Cobalt Chrome denture on the NHS - it is a battle though!

I have a partial top denture and went through in excess of 10 repairs/replacements due to the teeth replaced taking a lot of biting force etc. never lasting more than 3/4 days.  In the end the dentist applied for approval and was granted for a chrome denture (which has <touch wood> lasted 10+ years now).

The private price was over £1,000 at the time for the equivalent denture as they did try to sell me it privately until I insisted that it should be funded by the NHS.

Thanks for your information. I have contacted a dentist I used to be an NHS patient with and they suggested a cobalt chrome partial to me, when and if I receive a refund from my present dentist I have to make an appointment to discuss this with them.
