Inspired by the above advise, I just put details into Octopus and they'll gladly set me up at the DD level that matches my own figures i.e. £158. I think I'll be doing this. BG currently not budging from the £200 I opted to overpay.
Also on the BG site I managed to find some up to date detail in the legacy section of my account - latest DD payment from 02/04/23 showing up on the new site but billing calculations from yesterday 23/04/23 on the old, makes lots of sense. Anyway, anybody familiar with BG operations? They owe me £270, does this come back to me automatically or do I have to chase????0 -
I have just signed up with Octopus. I have waited two years for British Gas to sort their shambolic website out, after being transferred from People Energy, when they went pop, but I have lost all patience. I just hope the transition goes through OK.BG shows my Electricity consumption daily but not the gas, yet both smart meters are working just fine as I can see they have read them and can see the figures online, with the readings showing, usually weekly.Yet the website is incapable of following the readings through onto the energy usage page, because of this it falsely shows I am in credit to the tune of £440. I know I am not, but I do not know exact figures. Every so often, BG catches up and usually brings my account owing showed as zero. So I have given up with BG as of now. !0

@Geoff123 It's probably a well known quirk of the old BG system: usage was often billed six-monthly but DD payments were credited monthly. After five months customers would be shown to be well in credit only to find they were suddenly in debit a month later. EDF operates a similarly flawed system.BG is moving to a supposedly better system but so far it doesn't seem any better, merely different. EDF are moving to Kraken, the excellent system devised by Octopus.Octopus have good reviews on the forum and have been recommended by 'Which?' for many years in a row so it makes sense to Ditch and Switch.1
