Octopus energy quotes
Has anyone had issues with the online quote tool?
I have used it recently inputing actual consumption to obtain the quote. The online tool returned a figure of around £185. However, the emailed follow up was quoting almost double.
I tried again the next day and using the same usage the quote was £276 withe emailed follow up again almost double!

I wasn't aware of them offering online quotes again. People usually have to phone them or use Twitter to persuade them to let you join. The numbers are often a bit skewed by assumptions about usage, especially with multi-rate tariffs. Their renewal emails are notoriously inaccurate for Go customers.
Don't forget to use a referral code from a friend when you join.1 -
Is the standing charge and unit rate the same?0

I’ve just got a quote from them and the email was the same figure - for the agile tariff. Looking at past rates, I’m struggling to think of any drawbacks to switching as it never seems to have gone over 33.5p even during the very cold snap at the end of last year. Obviously I know the rate could rise but it doesn’t seem likely. Am I misreading it?0

No downside as can change to flexible at any timePNELancs said:I’ve just got a quote from them and the email was the same figure - for the agile tariff. Agile did go above 35p in December and very briefly in January but, on the whole, it's averaging well under the standard variable rate. Not enough regular cheap slots for me at the moment as about 70% of my usage is off-peak, mostly charging the car.1

Just to give you the complete picture. Agile Import is billed on 30 minute usage blocks NOT index readings. Should any of the 48 by 30 minute usage blocks going missing or get corrupted (sadly, it happens) then the mighty Kraken goes into a big sulk and it refuses to issue a statement. Octopus has procedures in place to attempt manual data retrieval; however, should this not be successful then Octopus reserves the right to bill at the flexible tariff rate. If you switch away from Agile, then you cannot return to a time-of-use tariff for 30 days.PNELancs said:I’ve just got a quote from them and the email was the same figure - for the agile tariff. For 7 months in 2021, Octopus had issues retrieving the XML 30 minute data file from Kaifa smart meters. This was resolved after a number of firmware updates. Fortunately, the meter holds import data for 13 months.1 -
30 days wait specifically refer to switching between smart tariffs, is there anything that says someone has to wait 30 days to switch back from flexible non smart tariff.Dolor said:

Thanks, I don’t mind a little uncertainty but the prospect of trying to use more electric at cheaper times and then not seeing the benefit of that is a little disconcerting. The tracker might be a better option but I’m going to have to think about it, probably until they’ve stopped taking new customers again![Deleted User] said:

I think that you will find that Octopus is happy to take on new customers if you call them. FWiW, Inam on Octopus Go Faster (now a dead tariff) with 30 minute usage billing. My comms hub was ‘bricked’ earlier this month after one if the quarterly DCC-initiated firmware updates. It was 15 days before I was able to get an installer out to pull the main fuse for 15 minutes to reset the comms hub. My monthly bill came through as normal this morning with no electricity meter data loss. My gas account is missing 10 days but as billing is based on index readings this isn’t an issue.PNELancs said:

All large suppliers including Octopus have re-opened online quote and switch pages ..........[Deleted User] said:
