Thanks Slinky. If it does step up to actual debt collector's letters, I'll rethink my plan. I don't have a forwarding address/es though.
It's not that it's a "huge imposition on my time" by any means. It's more "how long do I continue for when they clearly didn't?" Or are deliberately trying to run away from their debts.
Anyway so. Proper stuff for a year, junk being binned already, see if anything further transpires. Thanks again allShout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.1 -
I had bailiffs turn up looking for a previous occupant a few years ago. Literally just said ‘not me’ and away they went.2

Gawd if someone owed me money and I'd bailiffs on the case, I'd want them to be a little more ....rigorous.... But thanks for putting my mind at restShout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.0

I hate the fact that we still get Christmas cards for the previous owners 5 years after we moved in. I think it's really sad because at some point the sender will think the previous occupant has died or something as they likely may have stopped receiving card from the PO as well. Annoyingly these never have return addresses - completely daft in my opinion.
Also got some marketing trash for my MiL this week. She died 6 months back and if I had more time I would have written "deceased" on the envelop and popped it into the post box.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Jeez that’s awful Brie, and no way to let them know. (There’s a website idea in there somewhere.)
Yep a year is what I’ll give the proper stuff jonny, after that it’s filed in the round file, or burned perhaps.
People need to take some responsibility for themselves, anything that befalls them from their choice to not update addresses after a year is really on them I think.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.2 -
YoungBlueEyes said:Some of the bits - clubcard, holiday brochures - I've started binning this year. It's the 'proper' stuff I'm on about really. Binning that seems wrong, but sending it back isn't working (you've more patience than me @vangirl!)
So if a bailiff/whoever turns up, what do I do? Surely standing there saying "no that's not me, goodbye" isn't gonna satisfy them?2 -
I RTS 2 years later. Most of its stopped now but I did get a parcel the other day. The sellers left their number so I texted them. Was surprised to find they’d left chocolates where I left their parcel.Debt free October 2020 🎉FTB 12 2020 🥳

I am keeping up RTS for 12 months and will then likely give up.
I must admit I have setup a Royal Mail redirect for our move, and am suspicious of its effectiveness given that only 4 items of a mail have turned up via it in 6 months….that or my list of people to notify was 100% spot-on….3 -
If RTS does not work, I would simply open one, write on it that they moved out at x date, please trace them and stop sending letters here. It worked for me and letters slowed almost to a stop from then. The last couple who sent another had the same treatment again and I can only guess that tey had traced them to the new address as no more since. The creditors will be able to run a search and find them if they are advised they have moved as they will most likely have applied for more credit by then, and RTS takes months to get back to the sender so is a much longer process. As long as you do not do anything other than write on the letter and return it you will not have done anything illegal.Credit card debt - NIL
